We competed well and won our first game against Gilroy High friday night with a score 48-7. We had a lot of great performances, and were able to stay relatively healthy. Overall, we did well, but facing live competition really brought out some key flaws that we will need to work on to stay competitive in a very tough league. Offense did a great job, and with the exception of the first defensive drive, we were able to keep the Mustang offense in check.

Continuing to improve, and avoiding complacency will be a key for us to continue our success. Special teams was one of our weaker spots right now, and we will need to devote a little more time to that. Also, avoiding unnecessary penalties will be very important. Luckily, these mistakes didn't hurt us in the end, but we should always look to perfect our game, and be the best possible football team in the league.

All in all, we should be very pleased with our performance, and it was good to see our guys compete at a very high level. Great game all the way around, and lets focus on a new task. BEAT CHRISTOPHER!!!!

4 Team Scrimmage 08/29/2010

All in all, the scrimmage went well. Everyone got some very valuable field time and we got to face some live competition, one which we will see in a couple of weeks. I take very little from the outcomes from these scrimmages. No team wins or loses, and its not a good barometer of how well you will fare during the year. But I will say this, we are well ahead of where we were last year, and I believe that this years team is a much tighter group. We still have a lot of things we need to work on, and a lot of new plays and techniques we need to add. In time, we will be there, but know that the team you see today, will look different at the end of the year, in a good way of course. But, in summary, good scrimmage, and lets get better! BEAT GILROY!

IHS Camp 08/03/2010

This past weekend, we attended the Freedom camp at IHS. I was extremely pleased with how well we did, considering we were without a few players. We got roughed up a bit, but I really enjoyed the competitiveness, and the togetherness we showed. If this is a pre-cursor to what I can expect this season, I think we will be very successful.

We have now reached the 2nd month of the summer practice and there should also been somewhat of an attitude change. The first month of practice was more of an introductory period, however, now that we have all acclimated to the sport, the level of commitment should be picked up. Things are moving quickly and we have a short period of time to achieve our goals, so having everyone one the same page, ready to work, will be the most important factor to our success.

Passing League 07/01/2010

We did a really good job in the passing session against CHS. A lot of things to take away from that. It obviously going to be different when we're in pads, things are going live with the running game, and we have more work in us. Be sure to take what we can out of this experience, and lets work to become a better team.

49er Camp 06/27/2010

We just wrapped up the weekend camp with Eric Heitmann from the 49ers. All in all, it was a very productive and successful weekend. Putting on pads and making contact early on in the summer will be very beneficial to us, and we can now gear our training towards the end goal, and not have to worry about the unknown of putting pads on. We definitely have things to work on as far as tackling, but we will have plenty of opportunities to do so later on.

I am extremely excited for the season, now that we had an opportunity to see where we are at, and I think we'll be just fine heading into the season. The schedule for this week will be:

Monday - Off, no practice, but involuntary workouts at LO at 3:30
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - Normal Practice Schedule

We had a very good first day of practice. By my count, we had about 35 guys come out for the first day, and that is an awesome place to start at. Last year we had around 40-45 guys during the season. I expect a lot more guys to come out by the end of the summer, so getting the word out to some of those will be key. I know that some guys will be doing summer league for baseball, and some other things, but if anyone knows those guys, tell them to check in with me, so that I know they're interested, and they can get the right information they need to at least stay current.

Again though, fantastic start to the season. We began with a nice little plyometric/agility workout and we will continue to do things like this until we hit the 49er camp next friday. Again, to be eligible to participate in the camp, the player fee, or a down payment for it, will be due ($200) as well as the camp fee ($30). It will be an exciting camp, with a few other schools attending (i believe Gilroy, Sobrato, Christopher and maybe some others), and we will be getting some great coaching by some professionals, led by C Eric Heitmann and a few of his teammates.

Schedule for the remainder of the week:
Tuesday: 330 - Weight room. 400 - Combined agility stations with the varsity program. 500 - Ab stations
Wednesday: 330 - Nice easy jog/workout. 445 - Pool workout (bring towels and shorts)
Thursday: 330 - Agility stations. 430 - Weight Room
Friday - Off

Remember, schedule is always subject to change. (like wednesday may or may not be a pool workout, depending if someone is in there or not) This is just what im thinking we will be doing for the week.

Great job to start the week, lets finish it off strong!

On monday, we begin a new football season. I am extremely excited for it. I have learned a lot from last year, and from the previous years that I have been coaching, and I think it will all pay off this year. I realized many things about coaching, as well as coaching track, that I think will be helpful in getting us to succeed this year. However, I do know that it is vital to our success that everyone is on the same page, and we all understand our roles as coaches, parents, and student-athletes. I will work with each and everyone that I come across this year, to ensure maximum success, not only on the football field, but more importantly, in life. It's a long season, and we need to keep the end goals in mind, and as long as we do that, we will succeed in one form or another.

Thank you parents for all of the initial support, and I am looking forward to a great season with you all.

Football Meeting 04/14/2010

For any of those that missed the first football meeting before you guys went on spring break, I will be holding another one on thrusday 4/15. Lunchtime in Coach Porras's classroom. We will be going over some important information about the season, so dont miss it!

Tough Week 03/25/2010

Throughout the season, there are occasions where some weeks can be tougher than others. These weeks can affect performace tremendously. Some athletes can see these poor performances as discouraging. One of the things to keep in mind is that our ultimate goal is peek performance at the end of the year, where it really matters. So, sometimes it may seem like Coach Mike and I are working you too hard to jump well, or run fast, dont be discouraged. We want performances to be at its best at STAL finals, BVAL finals, CCS finals, and ultimately State finals.

This week, we had a pretty tough work load. Times may not be as good, or jump distances may not be as good, but they will when it matter.
